Infusion A, Hoppin’ Frog Brewing Company

Science gives us all sorts of cool stuff — footprints on the moon, instant video communications with far-off loved ones, the Batmobile and delicious coffee-infused beers.

OK, so the Batmobile is not a real thing, at least not yet. But all the other stuff on that list is real, including the latter. One of the better coffee-laced brews I’ve tried lately hails from Akron.

My wife knows of my love for dark beers and good coffee. She also knows I admire Hoppin’ Frog Brewing Company, home of big bold stouts, gorgeous India pale ales and serious barley wines. So when she spotted a 22-ounce bottle of Infusion A Coffee Porter at a local beer haunt, she sprang into action and made sure it found its way to her guy.

Infusion A is a product of the brewery’s Tower Tuesday experiments, during which the brewers combine a couple of their draft beers and infuse them with fresh hops, or coffee beans, or chocolate, or chili peppers or whatever and serve it up in the tasting room. Those Tower Tuesday concoctions are served up between 3 and 9:30 p.m. at the brewery, 1680 East Waterloo Road, Akron. People enjoy them, discuss them and ponder possibilities, and the best discoveries end up being bottled for wider distribution. It’s science, serving mankind in one of the most delicious possible ways.
